What Is Angkuoch Russey?
Angkuoch Russey is a traditional Cambodian bamboo Jew’s harp known for its gentle vibrating sound and ingenious simplicity. For generations, it has been played in rural communities for relaxation, personal enjoyment, and cultural expression.
Today, the instrument has become increasingly rare — making this workshop both a creative activity and a living heritage preservation experience.
What You Will Experience

The Master Behind This Tradition
Master Bin Song
Born in 1937 in Siem Reap, Master Bin Song has devoted his life to the Angkuoch Russey. Beginning at age 11, he has spent decades making, playing, and preserving this rare Cambodian musical tradition.
Today, Cultural Experiences Cambodia (CEC) works closely with Master Bin Song to transmit his knowledge through workshops led by trained cultural instructors who continue his teaching and craftsmanship methods.
When available, Master Bin Song may personally join selected sessions, offering participants a rare opportunity to meet a living guardian of Cambodian heritage.
By joining this workshop, you support the preservation and transmission of this endangered cultural tradition to future generations.
CEC Master Artist & Cultural Instructor Policy
Cultural Experiences Cambodia (CEC) works in collaboration with Cambodian master artists, craftsmen, and cultural practitioners who safeguard living traditions passed down through generations.
Our workshops are designed to transmit these traditions through hands-on learning guided by trained CEC cultural instructors working within the knowledge, techniques, and teaching lineage of these masters.
When available, master artists may personally join selected sessions to share their experience and stories. However, due to age, health, travel schedules, or artistic commitments, their presence cannot be guaranteed for every workshop.
Regardless of instructor availability, all workshops follow authentic methods developed in collaboration with the master artists to ensure a meaningful and culturally respectful learning experience.
By participating, guests directly support the preservation and continuation of Cambodia’s living heritage.
